Rhinestone Crowns Have Been Very Well Know Through The Ages

By Susan Dawson

There is something quite enchanting about watching the majestic events when a member of the Royal family is crowned. Rhinestone crowns are used in the creation of these crowns and proudly displayed in all their beauty in the crowns worn by many. Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana being two of the most famous women in history to have worn them.

Austria produces some of the most exquisite crystals. The rhinestone was first discovered in the Rhine River in Austria. They were soon depleted when the demand for them overtook supply.

Most little girls are brought up on fairy tales. The greatest fairy tale being of Princes and Princesses. Mother's, perhaps foolishly, raise daughters with the fairytale fantasy of finding their handsome Prince and wearing a beautiful crown of jewels some day. Not literally of course but these little girls do grow up expecting to find the man of their dreams and all that accompanies it.

Girls grow up hearing their Mother and friends speaking of diamonds and crystals, sapphires and gold. They will naturally be attracted to these sparkling jewels as they get older. Most women remember the fairy tales of their youth and stories about Princesses and Princes.

There is the old saying that "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" and one only has to see the excitement when a man proposes to his bride to be and places that diamond ring on her finger. For many woman the more diamonds there are, the greater they think his love is for her. Not every woman feels that way, there are many who are quite content with just one glittering stone in their ring.

History books have been written of the endless search for gold and diamonds. Wars have been fought, lives have been lost and fortunes made in the pursuit of treasures that lie beneath the earth. Going down a gold mine and seeing how much work goes into extracting the gold and diamond from the rocks is a fascinating experience.

Being able to see the whole process of a lump of rock being turned into a bar of pure gold is so interesting that it will amaze all who see it. The men who work down these mines have a hard life. It gets unbearably hot and stuffy. The noise from the jack hammers they use to penetrate the hard rocks are deafening.

When that gold and diamond ring is placed on her finger the last thing a woman wants to know is what went into the manufacture of what is now her engagement or wedding ring. Whether it is a diamond or sapphire, garnet or pearl most women can't wait to show off to all the symbol of love on her finger. Rhinestone crowns and many other valuable gems are used in the creation of crowns worn throughout history by popes, kings and queens. If you ever get the opportunity to go down a mine, you will truly appreciate what went into the making of these crowns.
