How To Make An Arabic Turban

By Kate McMahon

The Arabic faith comprises of many important aspects and the turban is one of the many aspects. An Arabic turban is compulsory for all those who have already passed through the baptism process. It usually symbolizes honor, respect to one self, courage and being spiritual.

Many methods can be used when tying the headgear, with the most common one being a wrapping that is taken round the head at least seven times. Its main feature is that it has a high centre and its sides are relatively flat. The following are the steps followed when tying a turban.

You should begin by buying fabric which should measure at least 5 yards. You may get it from your local textile store, craft store or buy it online. It will have to undergo some washing in order to get rid of the excess starch. The fabric should be folded into half on the long side, up to a maximum of four times. You might require a helping hand to do this in order to get the best results.

The fabric should then be lined up so that its edges are a bit flush. You will then roll the fabric up carefully. Gather all your hair at the front part of your head and create a long rope by twisting it.

In the step that come afterwards, take the twisted rope of hair and position it on your head;s top. Tie the hair well using a piece of square cloth like a bandana. Ensure the tie is at the back and in case there is any excess cloth remaining after the tie, hold it and tie it to the front. Commonly called pakta, this cloth is worn beneath the turban.

Grasp the turban's rolled end using your teeth. Then, you will need to roll it around your ear to the head's rear part. Two-three inches over the right ear is the required measurement. Wrap the fabric round the head. However, make sure you cover the left ear just partially.

In the next step, you should wrap the headgear for the second time around the head. Ensure that the second wrap is overlapping with the first one. The headgear ought to be higher on the left and lower on the right side as opposed to the wrap that was before it.

For five more times, the headgear should go round the head. This should be higher to the left and lower on the right side. Trimming any extra material with scissors is the next step. This is to enable proper tucking of the turban at the back of the head.

The last step is taking out some inches out of the initial wrap. Spread the material over your head after carefully unfolding it. Ensure the head is completely covered by holding the material's sides and tucking it into the part of the headgear that goes round the head. Any material that is left out in excess should be tucked behind. You will have the best Arabic turban if you apply these simple steps.
