How To Buy A Quartz Wrist Watch

By Linda Ruiz

Wrist watches refer to timepieces worn around the wrist for various purposes. The piece contains two bands which are used to tie it around the hand. All working mechanisms are normally enclosed inside a casing made from various materials such as metal, plastic, or alloys among others. Quartz wrist watch comes with a wide variety of features that allow it to serve more than just availing time.

There are other uses for wrist watches besides showing time conveniently and with immediacy. The items can also serve as fashion accessories in various events. First, antique wristwatches and pocket watches are normally appreciated worldwide as jewelry or collectible works of art. This has resulted in different markets for the items with some costing inexpensively while others cost a fortune. Men watches for formal, semi-formal, and casual attire are simple and plain with a thin body and made of gold.

There are a few factors to be considered when buying a timepiece. The factors include price, style, brand, life expectancy, maintenance, water resistance, bracelet, place of purchase, and size. Advertisements from manufacturers, number of jewels within the device, and internal working mechanisms should not be given much weight when buying items costing less than 10, 000 US Dollars.

Products vary in price widely. Low-end products go at low than 200 USD while moderate ones have a price range of between 300-700 USD. High-end timepieces can cost over 1000 USD. Expensive models come with specially developed tungsten. They are mechanical and gold, platinum and other precious metals are used to make the cases. Automatic quartz watches are manufactured from caoutchouc, stainless steel, titanium, leather, and carbon fiber. They cost moderately and fit well with casual wear.

Watches are also categorized into styles. Major styles are dress or classic, sports, and designer. Classic styles come with thin casings and are simple and plain. Gold is used to make the case and the bands and markings are made thick and bold. Designer models are produced by individuals who hold a worldwide reputation in watch making. They are often unique and unusual. Sports models have bezels with prominent markings and are large in size and resistant to water.

Another important factor is the place of purchase. Manufacturers of prestigious brands entrust their products to approved dealers only. Such products can therefore only be found from such dealers. Internet sources are unreliable and one should not purchase costly timepieces from them. However, the internet can offer some useful information about various watch models to buy. One must avoid making purchases for expensive watches from online stores and retail sites.

The life expectancy of most mechanical timepieces is infinite. The life of quartz watches is however limited by the short life of the replaceable parts in them. Parts need replacing after sometime when they wear out to keep the device functional. Some parts lack replacements hence such factors should be kept in mind at the time of purchase. Most devices have their life expectancy shortened by parts.

How well the device fits on the arm should also be considered. It must also be reasonable in terms of the size of the face. The choice of the face size should be based on the body size of the wearer to avoid appearing funny when wearing the device.
